Becca, from Nashville-based country music radio station 103 WKDF, helped kick off the music portion of the event! Power Source Top 20’s Rich Miller and Jerry Arhelger also hosted portions of the performances. Greg McDougal took the stage mid-afternoon, singing “That’s What the Lord Gave Me to Do” and “Livin’ By the Book” – both from his solo album, The Work of a Carpenter. He also previewed several songs from his forthcoming album of duets entitled Try a Little Kindness. During his set, Greg invited his four children on stage; Jeffrey (9), Sean (8), Katie (6), and Grace (3) sang “The Lighthouse,” accompanied by their father, truly one of the sweetest moments of the day! A few minutes later, Sharon and Cheryl (of The Whites) stealthily stepped on stage unannounced lending their harmonies to “Try a Little Kindness.”
The Whites treated the crowd to a full hour of music, which included fan favorites “Make Me Believe,” “You Put the Blue in Me,” and “I’m Hangin’ Around,” and more! In between songs, they shared road stories, and friendly family banter with each other. Irene Kelley – along with her daughters, Justyna and Sara – closed out the show. During their set, the Kelleys invited the McDougals on stage for “Dancing Shoes.” Other performance highlights throughout the day included Josiah Gibbs, who sang Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah," Michael Ryan’s rendition of the crowd-pleaser "Gravity" (a John Mayer cover), and 12-year-old guitar whiz Zachary Allen, who accompanied himself on “Sweet Home Alabama“ and a few other songs.
A popular booth on site housed a pile of timbers. The timbers were donated by Universal Builders in Mt. Juliet, and all adults and children who gave a monetary donation signed their names on the timbers, which will be used to construct the McDougal family’s new home. Three of Greg and Diane McDougal’s four children (ages nine and under) are diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Because the Aspergillus mold in their current home is a direct danger to their children’s health, plans to build an allergen-free home continue to move forward.
Additional monetary gifts are being collected. If you’d like to send one, please send your donations to:
