The event will feature Guy’s full band The Sluggo Smith Christmas Orchestra (led by legendary guitarist Andy Reiss) as well as the Nancy Family Singers, featuring Mackenzie Morgan, Joe Rucker, and Amanda Cornett! Each of the Nancy Family Singers will be highlighted in their own solo performances of Christmas songs. Troy Powers formerly from Vince Vance and the Valients and co-writer on their signature hit, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" will be sitting in on guitar as Mackenzie sings the timeless tune! Joe will sing “Florida Christmas,” and Amanda will perform “Soldier’s Girl.”

In addition, Elvis impersonator Doug Wilson is making the trip to Nashville from Tampa, Florida to participate in this show. “Doug puts on an incredible Elvis show! He loves to help out with kids. We work together each year at Charlie Daniel's Angelus benefit.”

To top off what should be an excitement-packed evening, Tommy Cash will be the special guest. He will sing some of his own hits and Christmas songs. Then, he will join Guy in a duet on “Ring Of Fire,” the tune made famous by his late brother, Johnny! “Having Tommy in my show, that means the world to me! Are you kidding?? For Tommy to come out and be a guest with such a busy schedule, to give to Boys Town like this? I'm so honored! But he's Tommy Cash. He and his family are givers. I am not surprised... just thankful for such a gift.”

Sure to be on Guy’s set list are both songs from his NEW Christmas release: “Merry Christmas, Sluggo (San Quentin School for Boys)” and “Christmas Light,” with an abundance of Christmas favorites thrown in the mix!

Proceeds raised during “Guy Gilchrist’s Christmas Spectacular Show” will be donated to Boys Town! Guy is also donating songwriting royalties and a portion of CD sales to this long-standing beacon of hope for children across the nation. About The Angelus

The Angelus is a home for severely handicapped persons who are not able to care for themselves. All of the residents and students have cerebral palsy and all use wheelchairs. Some are non-verbal, blind, deaf, or mentally challenged; some have normal intelligence. But, they all understand and need kindness and love.

The Angelus was founded in 1979 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Within a few short months, it became “home” for eight children, ranging from two to twelve years old. Initially supported by state funding, The Angelus eventually evolved into a non-profit organization.

By 1985, The Angelus had fourteen children entrusted to their care and the home was bursting at the seams. A search began for a new home. Seventeen acres of beautiful wooded land was obtained in Pasco County, which included a small two-bedroom house. The first Angelus home was completed in 1986. The following year, their second home was built by volunteers to accommodate all the children in St. Petersburg. The Angelus expanded once more in 1996 when an additional home was built by a handicapped friend of the organization. 600 volunteers pitched in to build Charlie’s Lodge in 1999 in honor of devoted The Angelus supporter, Charlie Daniels. The pavilion was built in 2001 and is used by many groups in the community for social events as well as fundraisers for The Angelus. For more information about The Angelus home and events, visit www.theangelus.com.

Christmas Continues For GUY GILCHRIST!
Nov 25, 2009
Nashville, TN (November 25, 2009) – Christmas was definitely in the air at GUY GILCHRIST’s CD launch party, held last week at The Listening Room Café! “White Christmas,” “Here Comes Santa Claus,” “Run, Run Rudolph,” “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” “Merry Christmas Baby,” and “Blue Christmas” were just a handful of the songs shared during the standing-room-only event. Guy and his guest artists and songwriters were backed by The Sluggo Smith Christmas Orchestra and the Nancy Family Singers (Mackenzie Morgan, Joe Rucker, and Amanda Cornett). “We had an old time Christmas Show feeling from the get go! Right from the start when we opened with ‘White Christmas,’ folks sang along.”

Two of the evening’s special guests were 12-year-old singing sensation, Mackenzie Morgan, and Mandy Barnett (known for her starring role in Always… Patsy Cline). Mackenzie sang a stunning rendition of “O Holy Night” and the Brenda Lee classic, “I’m Sorry.” Later that evening, she also won a raffle drawing for a guitar. Guy drew “Nancy,” “Sluggo,” and Santa Claus on the face of the guitar, which was also autographed by all of the evening’s guest artists.

Mandy dueted with Guy on “Jackson,” and – of course – “Merry Christmas, Sluggo.” (She is a featured vocalist on the studio recording of the single.) The well-rounded Christmas celebration also transcended generations, proving that music is truly universal. “At one time, we had a man who wrote a Christmas song for Ernest Tubb in 1952 singing with a man who had 50 Top Tens through the 60s and 70s AND a newcomer singing his first Christmas song!”

In between songs, Guy entertained guests with Christmas-themed jokes aplenty! There was no doubt that all in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the evening – perhaps most of all, Guy himself! The famed “Nancy” cartoonist is grateful for all the support his fans and industry peers have shown toward his new Christmas CD and for the Boys Town organization. “I want to say a special thank you to my friends and fans who have been sending donations to Boys Town in my honor and for purchasing the new CD. I personally have heard from a dozen people so far through my Facebook and MySpace pages, and my website – people as far away as Belgium are sending in donations to Boystown for all kinds of amounts! This is going somewhere – THANK YOU!!” In addition, some of our active military are sending the songs around the world and donating to Boys Town.

When asked what his favorite moment was, Guy shares, “When we finished with our finale, "Christmas Light," and I came off the stage, the first three people I hugged asked, ‘When's your NEXT show?!’” Guy joyfully admits, “I had concentrated so much on putting on the best show, remembering all my lyrics and chords, and telling jokes that I honestly hadn't thought past that moment! I must have looked like a boxer spun around and punched one too many times.”

Not to worry, as Guy now has an official answer for that question! The legendary Sun Beach Club and Strum Magazine are teaming up to sponsor the Guy Gilchrist's Christmas Spectacular! The event will once again feature his full band The Sluggo Smith Christmas Orchestra (led by the legendary Andy Reiss), the Nancy Family Singers, as well as some very special guests!

Fans are invited out to the Sun Beach Club on December 17 from 9 PM to midnight, where they are sure to hear both songs featured on Guy’s new Christmas CD: “Merry Christmas, Sluggo (San Quentin School for Boys)” and “Christmas Light”! (Sun Beach Club Address: 170 N Water Ave; Gallatin, TN 37066)

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Boys Town! For more information about Boys Town, please visit www.boystown.org.

“Nancy” Comic Strip Cartoonist, GUY GILCHRIST, Signs With STAR Country Media!
Nov 16, 2009
Nashville, TN (November 16, 2009) – STAR Country Media is thrilled to announce the signing of “Nancy” comic strip writer and illustrator, GUY GILCHRIST, to their company roster! STAR Country Media will handle publicity and promotion efforts for Guy’s “Merry Christmas, Sluggo (San Quentin School For Boys)” project throughout the holiday season!

STAR Country Media’s Public Relations Director, Estella Pan, first began following Guy’s career in 2002. Though she enjoyed “Nancy,” her favorite works were Guy’s “Your Angels Speak” illustrated panels. One of his Limited Edition “Your Angels Speak” panels was inspired by powerhouse vocalist and songwriter Tammy Cochran’s Top 10 hit, “Angels in Waiting.” Only a handful of the “Angels in Waiting” prints were sold; each was autographed by both Guy and Tammy. Already a fan of Tammy’s music at the time, Estella purchased a print for herself. (Tammy Cochran would become STAR Country Media’s flagship artist in 2007.)

A veteran in the business who understands the importance of securing a cohesive team, Guy is delighted to include Estella on his team for his new Christmas CD. “I was referred to Estella by my friends at Strum magazine, and I was blown away by her heart, willingness to listen and help, and enthusiasm for the project! In our conversations, I discovered that she and I had crossed paths previously through our mutual friend, Tammy Cochran, and shared a mutual love for children and children's charities. Immediately, I sensed a kindred soul in Estella and asked if she would come on board for my Christmas project.”

He adds, “I am so glad she has! Within moments of our working together, offers for radio and Internet radio interviews started coming in, and that has already impacted the record. Estella isn't just into it for the single; she wants the homerun! She puts her heart and soul into the project and is as amazingly creative as she is tireless. My management team loves her, my friends in the business love her, and so do I.”

Guy’s CD release features two sides: “Merry Christmas, Sluggo (San Quentin School for Boys)” and “Christmas Light.” Guy drew inspiration for writing the slightly mischievous and thoroughly enjoyable “Merry Christmas, Sluggo (San Quentin School for Boys)” from his own life. He shares, “I know a little about having a bit of a tough childhood, having grown up without the proper Father figure in my life. There comes that time in your life – maybe just into adolescence – when you can start down one of two roads. I thought I was a pretty tough kid. I was always getting into scrapes and mixing it up. I thought I was tougher than I was. Kind of like Sluggo.”

Receiving the Johnny Cash at San Quentin album became a pivotal turning point in Guy’s life. “Each time I listened to it, it crept deeper into my bones. Full of humor, anger, passion and truth. Sin and Redemption. It helped to heal my heart. I thank God, and the people God put into my life, for giving me the guidance and the love I needed when I needed it.” Guy has since dedicated his life to healing hearts through laughter and music and his new Christmas project is a product of the fact. “I know that I have been put on this earth to make folks smile. After all, it's pretty tough to hate while you're smiling. That's why I love my life as a cartoonist and writer. I have been blessed with these world-famous characters that have lived in our hearts and in the funny papers since 1922. Maybe they will now live on in this song...with laughter...and a purpose.”

The flip side features “Christmas Light,” a beautiful ballad celebrating the meaning behind the holiday. “These two songs are about redemption. Isn't that what God is all about? The Christmas story is one of love. Unconditional love. We can never buy or live our way into The Lord's heart. We're there because He gives us chance after chance. He gives us all His love, changes our hearts from the inside out, and makes us better people.”

Guy is donating a portion of all sales as well as his songwriting royalties from the CD to the Boys Town, an organization that has been a beacon of hope for neglected and abused children for almost a century. “This organization is all about love and that second chance. Unconditional love. No judgement. Father Flanagan, who started Boys Town in 1917, said it best: ‘There's no such thing as a bad boy.’ All children are the same in the eyes of those who give of their time, love and soul at Boys Town to turn lives around.”

“Because of Boys Town, 500,000 boys and girls in 26 states were loved and shown a better way last year alone.” He adds, “I hope that by using my world-famous character, Sluggo, and this story of Santa seeing into this boy’s heart, that through this funny song with a special universal message, we are able to raise money and awareness for the good works of Boys Town, year after year. There but for the Grace of God go I.”
